Legends Volleyball in playoff hunt
Inaugural team is fourth in the conference
The Legends Volleyball team is having a solid first season. The team is sitting in fourth place in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) - North Division.
There are two weeks left in the regular season, and the women's volleyball team has six conference games left to help determine their final conference ranking.
"This season has been so wonderful," said Assistant Volleyball Coach Becky Schlichting. "We have a great group of young women both on and off the court. Coach (Mitch) McGuire and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with them."
Sitting at 9-7 overall and 6-4 in the conference, the Legends Volleyball team is still in the running to make it to playoffs. The top four teams in the North Division of the MCAC advance to the Region 13 Playoffs. The Legends are currently one loss behind third-place Mesabi Range CTC and one loss ahead of fifth-place Central Lakes.
"We are pushing hard for at least a fourth-place finish," Schlichting said. "There are a lot of factors amidst the other teams' end schedules that will play into this, so we really need to focus on what we can control throughout our next few matches.
"We have learned that there is not a team in our conference that we cannot compete with nor beat. While sometimes the end result of some tight matches hasn't gone our way, the skill and ability are there. We are working to improve our execution abilities during long rallies or in those tight situations to help a few more go our way these next two weeks."
The Legends' next home game is tonight at 6:30 p.m., when they will take on seventh-ranked Hibbing Community College. The Legends are on the road Saturday to face top-ranked Itasca.
