Two Legends golfers compete at Nationals
Hamman and Josephson took on new experiences
Alexandria College sent two Legends to the NJCAA DII National Golf Tournament in May.
Abby Hamman finished middle of the pack golfing a 340 over four rounds of competition ending in a tie for 43rd. She competed at Mayfair Country Club in Sanford, Florida. Connor Josephson competed for the men's team competing with three rounds golfing an 80, 81 and a 77.
"I am very thankful for Alex Tech, the ATCC Foundation, and Scott Dirck for this opportunity to play at nationals," Hamman said. "It was such a great opportunity to play with people from around the US. Only being able to golf outdoors a few times before nationals made it a little difficult for my short game, but (Head Coach) Scott (Dirck) helped me figure it out and I definitely improved as the rounds went on."
In Minnesota, putting greens are on Bent grass, and this golf course used Bermuda grass.
"We struggled learning to putt on it, but other than that she did amazing," said Legends Golf Head Coach Scott Dirck.
Hamman was competing at Nationals during the Alexandria College commencement, but was still able to celebrate.
"It was a great experience. The weather was beautiful, the competition was great and we met a lot of cool people," Dirck said. "It may have not gone as well as Abby planned, but I thought that she did a good job. I want to thank Executive Foundation Director Jeff Wild and Athletics Director Sean Johns for making this happen. It was a great experience."
The golfers' trips to Nationals were funded in part by the Alexandria College Foundation Legends Athletics Fund.
Josephson also was able to partake in the National Golf Tournament action at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club in Joplin, Missouri.
"Nationals was a great experience to end my first year at Alexandria Tech. I am thankful that I was given this opportunity to compete at nationals through Alexandria College and my coach, Scott Dirck," Josephson said.
Josephson played in the rain two of the days, and had a four-hour rain delay on day two.
"Besides that the weather was beautiful," he said. "Even though the outcome wasn't how I wanted it to be I had a great time at the tournament."
Legends Golf is now prepping for its fall season when college resumes in August.
