Men's Golf team qualifies for NJCAA Nationals
Legends battled rough weather over three days.
The Men's Golf team qualified for the NJCAA DII National Championship tournament after a second-place finish at the Region IV Championship tournament on Oct. 6-8 at Prairie View Golf Club in Byron, Ill.
Connor Josephson, who qualified individually for Nationals last season, is looking forward to having his team share the experience at Nationals with him this year.
"It was very exciting to qualify for nationals as a team," said Josephson, who scored 76, 81, and 79. "We didn't play to our full potential as a team, but we battled hard and stayed in it. It was windy all three days, and the last day was by far the roughest weather conditions."
Lucas Justesen, who scored 77, 72, and 83, said it was a challenging course to play. The less-than-ideal weather conditions made it even more difficult.
"It was an amazing feeling to qualify and be going to nationals for the first time," said Jayme French, who scored 83, 84, and 78 during the tournament. "I didn't have a great showing individually, but I am grateful my team was there backing me up with better scores. And we were able to take second."
The Legends team scored 310, 307, and 321, with a total score of 938 over the three-day tournament. Highland Community College placed first (936).
This is only the second official season for the Legends Golf team, and the coaching staff is very pleased with the team's accomplishments.
The National Championship will take place May 23-26 at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Ind.
