The Alexandria College Legends Fishing team participated in the Abu Garcia College Fishing by Yeti tournament at Table Rock Lake, Branson, Mo., on April 5, 2024.
The event is a Major League Fishing tournament that hosts competitive fishing teams from colleges and universities from all over the U.S.
Legends anglers Anders Fering, a Carpentry student from Blue Earth, Minn., and Mason Qualey, a Business Management student from Woodbury, Minn., took 35th place in the event with five fish totaling 16lb. 4 oz. The duo was just 4 ounces shy of securing a spot in nationals.
Jackson Baker, a Business Management student from Cokato, Minn., and Ryan Kieke, a Marketing & Sales Management student from Cold Spring, Minn., claimed the 140th place spot with five fish totaling 12 lb.
"We had an awesome week on Table Rock Lake with the Alexandria College Legends fishing team," said Kieke. "Congrats to Fering and Qualey on a top-40 finish. We can't wait for the next one."
"These tournaments are always fun. We were able to beat 210 of the 245 college teams that were competing from around the country. As great as that was, our ultimate goal was to make nationals, but we fell short by 4oz," said Joe Scegura, Alexandria College Fishing Team coach. "For now, we will settle for being the best team in the Midwest. Luckily, we have three of our top four anglers returning next year, so look for some great finishes from the Alexandria College Fishing team next year."
