Alexandria College Legends Oscar Diaz (Pelican Rapids) scored the first goal against the Minnesota West Community College Bluejays during a regular season away game in Worthington, Minn., September 2.
Diaz scored the goal from 35 yards away placing the shot in the upper corner. After Diaz's goal, the Legends were able to score two more times with Dahir Mohamed (Willmar) earning the second goal and Sebastian Centeno Torres (Pelican Rapids) scoring the third.
"We created a couple of good chances in the first half but failed to take advantage of those opportunities," said William "Chato" Alvarado, Legends Soccer co-head coach. "Roberto Gomez Diaz (Chaska) played a tremendous game, and up front Dahir Mohamed made a big difference. Everybody played hard till the end of the game. We scored our 3rd goal with 4 minutes left in the game."
Ultimately, Minnesota West was able to keep up the pace and the Legends fell 4-3.
The loss did not stop Diaz's hard-charging style when the Legends played against the Lake Super College Ice Hawks in Duluth, Minn., on September 4.
Diaz scored in the 37th minute of the game with an assist from Mohamed. This goal was the only one scored by the Legends in the game. Ice Hawks tested the Legends' defensive skills with Owen Peters (Richfield), goalie, performing 8 saves. The Legends lost to the Ice Hawks with a final score of 4-1.
"We played a very talented team with several international athletes," Alvarado said. "We continue to work on ways to take advantage of the opportunities we create to score goals."
The Legends compete again at home against Dakota County Technical College on Sept. 9 at 5 p.m. at the Alexandria High School Stadium.
